Move • Connect • Heal | Black Maternal Health Week 2026
Movement of Joy: Hypertension Zumba is a joyful, movement-based wellness experience designed to center hypertension prevention, heart health, and community care for Black and Brown women. Hosted by Shades of Motherhood Network (SOMN) during Black Maternal Health Week 2026, this event uses movement, joy, and connection as tools for prevention and healing.
Hypertension is one of the leading contributors to maternal health complications for Black women. This experience intentionally transforms prevention from information into action, access, and sustainability, creating a welcoming space where wellness is accessible, empowering, and rooted in community.
Why This Event Matters
Black women are disproportionately impacted by hypertension and related maternal health complications. Movement of Joy addresses this reality by centering movement-based wellness, stress reduction, and heart health education in a supportive, culturally affirming environment.
