About the event
Girl Get a Doula
A Documentary on Systems Change | Black Maternal Health Week 2026
Girl Get a Doula is an inspiring documentary screening and community gathering that explores how a doula-desert community addressed the urgent need for culturally responsive maternal care—and transformed their neighborhood in the process. Hosted by Shades of Motherhood Network (SOMN) during Black Maternal Health Week 2026, this event centers trust, community care, and systems change through storytelling.
The film highlights the power of doula support in improving birth outcomes, strengthening advocacy, and building sustainable systems of care for Black families. Through lived experience and collective action, Girl Get a Doula demonstrates how community-led solutions can shift maternal health systems toward equity.
