Spokane Shades of Wellness & Joy Iniative

About the Spokane Shades of Wellness Pilot Program

The Family Wellness Support Pilot is a community-centered maternal health initiative developed by the Shades of Motherhood Network (SOMN) to support families during pregnancy and the first year after birth. The program combines financial assistance, wellness services, care coordination, and community support to help families overcome barriers that can impact maternal and family well-being.

Eligible participants who are pregnant or up to 12 months postpartum may receive $600 per month for 12 consecutive months (up to $7,200 total) to help address family stabilization needs such as food, transportation, childcare, healthcare access, housing-related expenses, and other wellness-related costs.

In addition to financial support, participants are connected with a collaborative care team that may include doulas, peer support leaders, counselors, wellness practitioners, and healthcare professionals. Families are encouraged to participate in wellness activities, support groups, educational workshops, leadership development opportunities, counseling services, and community gatherings designed to promote healing, resilience, and long-term wellness.

The program serves families in Spokane County and surrounding communities who may be experiencing financial stress, limited support systems, healthcare access challenges, high-risk pregnancies, infant medical complexities, postpartum recovery needs, or other family stabilization concerns. Eligibility is based on family circumstances and wellness needs rather than strict income requirements alone.

Through a relationship-based and culturally responsive approach, the Family Wellness Support Pilot seeks to improve maternal health outcomes, reduce family stress, strengthen community connections, and demonstrate the value of community-led support systems for families during pregnancy and early parenting.
